Hello! My name is Spencer Vandergrift.

I grew up in Southern California where I quickly fell in love with all aspects of visual communication, from magazines, CD art, and skate culture (I remember pumping out color variations of the Volcom stone on a teal iMac back in the early 2000s) to billboards and TV advertisements. Learning how to screen print really sealed the deal with my interests in a career based on visual art; the balance of technical, step-based processes and artistic, creative freedom appealed to me like no other. I saw this workflow reflected in the greater ‘graphic design’ world, so I decided to go to move to San Francisco, and go to school for it.

With an animator-father and occupational therapist-mother, I've always been surrounded by creativity, and was encouraged to show interest in the arts. This duality has given me insight in recognizing how to elevate fun, the ‘cartoon-iness’ of a situation, while keeping a firm level of analytical review to any given challenge.
